What is Claude?

Claude is an AI assistant and family of large language models developed by Anthropic. The models are split into Opus (most capable), Sonnet (balanced), and Haiku (fastest and cheapest) tiers, so you can choose the trade-off between quality, speed, and cost. Claude accepts large amounts of text and images at once and is used for tasks such as writing, data analysis, coding, and customer support.

Why does Claude matter?

For an online store, Claude is interesting because it can automate work that otherwise takes manual time: writing product descriptions, translating content, answering support tickets, and extracting patterns from order and product data. Because the model is accessed through Anthropic’s API, it can be built into your own flows instead of being locked to a single platform. That lets you scale content and support without hiring proportionally more people.

Common use cases

• Product copy at scale. Generate or rewrite descriptions and meta text from specs and tone of voice.
• Customer support. Power a chatbot or support assistant that answers order and product questions.
• Data analysis. Feed in CSV exports, spreadsheets, or screenshots and get summaries of sales, returns, or inventory.
• Tool access via MCP. Connect Claude to your systems with the Model Context Protocol.

Shopify perspective

Claude is not a built-in Shopify feature — Shopify Magic uses Shopify’s own AI. To use Claude in your store, you go through a third-party app that integrates the model, or your own backend that calls Anthropic’s API against Shopify’s Admin API.
