Parcel shop
A parcel shop is a pickup point in e.g. a kiosk or supermarket where the customer collects their parcel instead of home delivery.

What is a parcel shop?
A parcel shop is a staffed pickup and drop-off location — typically a kiosk, supermarket, or petrol station — where carriers like GLS, PostNord, DAO, and Bring deposit parcels for customers to collect themselves. The customer gets an SMS or email with a pickup code once the parcel is ready. Delivery to a parcel shop is cheaper than home delivery because the carrier consolidates many parcels in one place, and it is one of the most-used delivery methods in Denmark and the Nordics.
Why does a parcel shop matter?
Delivery method is one of the most common reasons customers drop off at checkout. Many customers prefer a parcel shop near home or work over waiting at home for a time slot, so offering a parcel shop choice with a map view can directly lift conversion. The shipping price is often lower too, letting you offer free or cheap delivery without eating your whole contribution margin.
Common use cases
- The customer picks the nearest parcel shop on a map at checkout, and the chosen pickup point is passed to the carrier.
- You offer parcel shop as a cheaper alternative alongside home delivery.
- You set a free-shipping threshold that applies to parcel shop only, to control shipping cost.
- Returns are handled by the customer dropping the parcel off at a parcel shop.
- The customer automatically gets tracking and a pickup notification when the parcel arrives at the shop.
Shopify perspective
Shopify now has a native “ship to pickup point” feature for select regions and carriers, but for Nordic carriers like GLS and DAO a parcel shop map at checkout still typically requires a shipping app from the App Store. Note that Shopify’s own “local pickup” is different: it is collection at your own store or warehouse, not at a carrier’s parcel shop. Choose an app that writes the selected pickup point correctly onto the order, so your 3PL or packing flow books the right address.
