Product catalog
A product catalog is a store's complete, structured set of products with titles, prices, images, SKUs, inventory, and variants.

What is a product catalog?
A product catalog is the complete, structured set of every product a store sells, together with its attributes: title, description, price, images, SKU, inventory status, and variants. It acts as the central data source the rest of the store draws on — from product pages and search to checkout and external sales channels. In other words, the catalog describes what you sell and with which data, not how the products are presented visually.
Why does a product catalog matter?
The quality of your product data determines how well almost everything else works. Clean, consistent titles, variants, and SKUs improve onsite search and filtering, reduce errors, and raise approval rates in external feeds to channels like Google Shopping and Meta. If the data is messy or incomplete, those errors propagate into ads, inventory management, and the customer experience — and get more expensive to fix as the catalog grows.
Common use cases
- Import and export. Bulk-updating products via a CSV file when migrating or changing prices at scale.
- Feeds to sales channels. Mapping the catalog to Google Shopping, Meta, and price-comparison sites.
- Onsite search and filtering. Attributes like color, size, and price power faceted navigation.
- Enrichment with metafields. Extra structured fields (material, dimensions, specs) beyond the default ones.
Shopify perspective
In Shopify the catalog is managed under Products in the admin, and you can bulk import and export via CSV. The default fields cover the basics, while metafields extend product data with your own structured attributes. Group products into collections (a product can belong to several) and name fields, tags, and variants consistently — that makes merchandising, feeds, and integrations far easier to automate.
