Shipping module
A shipping module is an app or integration that manages delivery methods, shipping rates, labels and tracking in your Shopify store.

What is a shipping module?
A shipping module is an app or integration that connects your store to one or more carriers and handles the shipping flow itself: choosing a delivery method, calculating shipping rates, printing carrier labels, and updating tracking. Shopify has no core feature officially called a “shipping module” — the term refers to the third-party tools (such as Shipmondo or Webshipper) that sit on top of Shopify’s built-in delivery settings.
Why does a shipping module matter?
Shipping is one of the places where a mistake reaches the customer directly and costs support time, returns, and bad reviews. A shipping module gathers carrier rules, rates, and label printing in one place, so you avoid manual entry and misshipments. It also keeps checkout updated with the right delivery options and pushes tracking back onto the order, so the customer automatically gets a shipping confirmation.
Common use cases
- Batch label printing straight from the order list instead of logging into each carrier separately.
- Parcel-shop selection at checkout, where the customer picks a specific pickup point at GLS, DAO, or PostNord (parcel shop).
- Per-carrier pricing rules based on weight, order value, or zone.
- Automatic tracking sent to the customer and reflected in order status.
- Handoff to a 3PL or warehouse that packs and ships for you.
Shopify perspective
Shopify can handle shipping zones with flat, weight-based, or price-based rates on its own, so you can sell without an external app. If you need real-time carrier-calculated rates at checkout, that requires a higher plan (or annual billing). Most stores still choose a shipping module because label printing, parcel-shop selection, and carrier integrations are rarely covered by the default setup. Make sure the app writes tracking back via Shopify’s fulfillment API so confirmation emails trigger correctly.
