The Danish e-mark
The Danish e-mark is the national trust certification for online stores, ensuring secure shopping, clear terms and buyer protection for consumers.

What is The Danish e-mark?
The Danish e-mark (e-mærket) is Denmark’s national labeling scheme for safe online shopping. A store carrying the mark has passed a legal review and meets requirements covering GDPR, clear terms and conditions, secure payment, and transparent pricing. It is run by an independent organization backed by, among others, Dansk Erhverv and Forbrugerrådet Tænk (the Danish Consumer Council), and acts as a visible trust signal on the store.
Why does The Danish e-mark matter?
For a store selling to Danish consumers, the e-mark is a strong social proof signal that can lift conversion by removing doubt at the moment of purchase. Behind the mark sits a buyer guarantee that can cover the customer for up to DKK 10,000 per purchase if something goes wrong, plus free complaint handling. That makes it more than a logo — it is a concrete guarantee that lowers the perceived risk of buying from you.
Common use cases
- When a new Danish store wants to build trust quickly without an established brand track record.
- When you want to display a recognized trust mark at checkout and in the footer to reduce drop-off.
- When a foreign store targets the Danish market and must document compliance with Danish consumer law.
- When gathering documentation on GDPR, terms, and marketing for the mandatory review.
Shopify perspective
Shopify does not include the e-mark by default — you must apply, pay an annual fee, and pass the legal review before the mark can be shown. Once approved, you add the badge to your theme, typically through a snippet in theme.liquid or a footer section. Make sure the terms, privacy policy, and cookie information on your store match what you stated in the application, so the setup holds up under ongoing checks.
