White label
White label is a finished product or software made by one producer and sold by another company under its own brand and logo.

What is White label?
White label is a finished product or service made by one producer without its own branding, so another company can sell it under its own name and logo. The reseller adds its brand, price, and customer experience on top of the item, while production, quality, and often shipping stay with the supplier. It differs from private label, where a product is manufactured exclusively for one retailer to its specification — white label is instead typically a generic product that many resellers can offer.
Why does White label matter?
For an online store, white label makes it possible to launch a range without investing in your own production, inventory, or development. You can build a brand and margin on top of an existing product and get to market fast. The trade-off is that others often sell the exact same product, so your brand, marketing, and customer service become what sets you apart.
Common use cases
- Print-on-demand: T-shirts, posters, and mugs are printed and shipped by a supplier under your brand, with no supplier logo on the package.
- White-label SaaS: An agency resells another provider’s software (e.g. analytics or email) under its own name.
- Cosmetics and supplements: Generic formulas are packaged and labeled with your own brand.
- Dropshipping with a white-label agreement: Standard dropshipping often ships with the manufacturer’s branding, but a white-label agreement means neutral or branded packaging.
Shopify perspective
In Shopify, white label is usually handled through apps. Print-on-demand services like Printful and Printify integrate directly with the store, produce on order, and ship under your brand without their own logo. Customize packing slips, tracking emails, and packaging to match your brand, and check the supplier’s delivery times and return policy, since they directly affect your customer experience.
